Trip West 2005
For a few weeks in summer, I drove out west to visit a few
friends and see new things. I drove my friend Marie back to her house in
Pullman, in eastern Washington. I also picked up my friend Katie in Battle
Ground, Washington, and gave her a ride back to Colorado to start the German
Master's program. Here's some pictures:

Here's me on a river in Idaho. Marie and I went swimming
there to cool down on the road trip. Believe it or not, this is the
second-nicest beach I've been to!

Here's some wheat in a field in eastern Washington.
Washington is a beautiful and diverse state, but it also has a lot of
similarities to outer space.

Here is a lake near the Grand Tetons in Wyoming. Marie
and I camped there one night on the way north. By the way, I don't speak
French, but is it really true that "grand tetons" means "big titties"?

A view of Mount Rainier from Gig Harbor, Washington. I
went there to visit my Great Aunt Dee and Uncle Marty. The weather was
amazingly nice the whole time I was up there, and I was able to get this pretty
shot.

If you're anything like me, you'll probably think this sign is
pretty funny and you'll giggle. If you're not anything like me, then
you're probably not on this site anyhow.

This is me eating a date bar on the ferry from Vancouver to
Victoria, Canada. I didn't realize it before, but my bald spot in the back
kind of looks like a yamaka.

Here's a picture of my friend Katie in Vancouver.
Vancouver was pretty, but also pretty messed up. For more info, see my "G"
music review.

Speaking of Katie, just before I went out there to visit, she
bought a house. I "helped her fix it up," but mainly I stood around a lot,
like in this picture. That's her dad on the phone, and yeah, he looks like
Bill Clinton.

Aah, stupid kids. This was on a sign in Yellowstone
warning people to not walk on the steaming hot geysers.

This is me standing by a steam-powered clock in Vancouver.
I'm wearing a small T-shirt and my legs look skinny, so I kind of feel like a
rock star when I see this picture. Also, "Tumbleweed," the name on my
shirt, was the country-western band that my dad played in in the 80s.

Here I am in Victoria, the capital of British Columbia.
Bet you thought the capital was Vancouver, didn't you? Dumbass.

Some seagulls near a ferry from Victoria to America. The
parking lot here was evidently the only time my car was safe in the
Vancouver-Victoria area, and only then because there were armed border guards
from both sides all around.

These pictures aren't really in order, but before I went
further west, I hung out at Marie's place for a few days. She lived right
near the Idaho border, so we went to Idaho for breakfast one day. I ate
eggs benedict and about half of Marie's breakfast, too.

Marie and I in Montana, near the teepee we stayed in.
I'm gesturing with my thumb as if to say, "Take a look at this freaking teepee
we're staying in!" It was so awesome.

Me and my friend Katie at Vadauwoo Rocks in Wyoming. We
camped there on the way back from Washington.

A lighthouse in Vancouver that I really liked.

Another picture of Vancouver.

Here I am skipping rocks in the ocean somewhere in Washington.
That state has the coolest beaches I've ever seen.

Speaking of cool beaches, here's a sign from one of them.
Why do all the warning signs have to be so hilarious?

Hasta la victoria siempre, baby. This is me and my car
on Long Beach, Washington. It was the coolest beach I've ever been to!
First of all, it's supposedly the longest beach in the world, and it's also
really wide. It was night, it was raining and cold as balls, and we got
stuck a few times (you could drive on the beach), but it was still incredible.
It was probably the highlight of my trip.
