Adriana's Pictures

Adriana Mora Jiménez is one of my many new nieces. She is the daughter of Antonieta (Toni), one of Angela's sisters. Since moving to Berlín, Angela and I currently live next door to Adriana and her family. In any case, she took some very good pictures, particularly of the Costa Ricans at the wedding (there was a slight language barrier, and they were a bit under-represented in some of the other picture pages). Enjoy!

Some of Angela's nieces and nephews; from left, Guadalupe (Lupe), Veronica (Vero), Mariela, Enrique, and Donald. Most of these first pictures come from our rehearsal dinner.

My cousin Brian, my cousin Kiersten, my brother Paul, and my cousin Katie.

Mariela and Andy, aka "Chorizo."

Bobby, Brad, and Shani.

Davey and Abuela. Abuela looks like she's just about through with putting up with Davey's drunken shit.

My aunt Kathy, totally owning my cousin Brian. Not only is Kathy strong; Brian is also weak. Ha ha!

Angela and Adriana, the girl who took most of the pictures on this page.

Me, handing Angela her ass in an arm-wrestling match. The ass is the traditional groom-to-bride wedding present here.

Kathy and Ligia arm wrestling. I believe that Kathy won this match, which is saying a lot, since Ligia is hardcore. Seriously, if you watch her pick coffee, you're likely to get an eye knocked out, what with all the flying coffee beans.

My mom arm wrestling Angela's mom. I have no idea why we all started arm wrestling, but it should be used as an ice-breaker in any new cultural situations where there is no common language. After all, physical aggression is the world's true lingua franca. By the way, this match was a tie. It took about two minutes, also. But look at the way they're holding their hands, and you'll know why.

This about explains itself.

Behind the scenes: Adriana went with Angela to get her makeup and hair done on the wedding day.

Jeffrey, Davey, Chorizo, Olman, and Eduardo (Mariela's boyfriend). Interesting fact: people in Costa Rica like to flash the "thumbs up" in pictures whenever possible. If this were an SAT-style equation, I'd read like:

Costa Ricans : "Thumbs Up" :: Asians : "Peace Sign"

OR:

Costa Ricans : "Thumbs Up" :: Americans : "Middle Finger"
